In this update I share the latest progress on my KITT dashboard build. There’s still lots of trimming, sanding, cutting and even fiberglass work going on.
The thirdgen Firebird is an 80’s design icon. However, for the 1990 model year, Pontiac introduced the steering wheel airbag, which in my opinion never really suited the style of the interior. I’ve found a more period correct steering wheel. Not an original Firebird steering wheel from the previous years, but a new style from VSW. It’s 35 cm in diameter, compared to the 38 cm of the OEM steering wheel. Just slightly smaller, so you don’t really notice it when you see it, but definitely feels more like a Go Kart when you drive it.
Parts used:
Steering wheel: VSW S6 Leather Series – ST3060B-8B-21BLK
Adapter: 6061 Billet Aluminum
Compatible with 1969 – 1994 Pontiac Firebird or Chevrolet Camaro (and others)
I haven’t had time to work on my KITT dash since last January. now I’m back making slow but st steady progress on it. Stay tuned and check out my Instagram @motorscotti for regular small updates.
Just a short video on what might be possible causes when your 1980’s GM electric fuel goes bad. Is it the pump itself or might the real cause be coming from somewhere else?
Little clip of some driving footage while more content is being made in the background. Check out SwissKnight2000 and their awesome KITT replica.
Join me as I somewhat re-restore my KITT. Over the winter of 2020 / 2021 I gathered a few parts I knew I’d have to replace at some point in the future. When I recently discovered a few oil and coolant leaks, I thought I might as well do everyhting in one go. I was shocked at how many original parts I still hadn’t changed on this car: springs, transmission mount, power steering mount, steering rack, water pump, power steering pump, the spark control module as well as a number of other parts I changed off camera (see below for parts list).
In this video I’m going through each step of wiring up the ideegeniali KITT dashboard electronics.
Here’s a quick unboxing video of the ideegeniali 1st / 2nd season KITT dashboard electronics I will be putting together for a friend of mine’s KITT dashboard. That’s right, this one is not for my KITT, but I shall still document the process. Stay tuned for the next steps!
