A viewer recently asked me why I chose ideegeniali for my KITT dashboard electronics over other manufacturers like ZA or Jupiter Electronics. Here’s my one take on the subject.
Knight Rider dashboard build – Episode 4 – Redoing some fiberglass work
In this update I share the latest progress on my KITT dashboard build. There’s still lots of trimming, sanding, cutting and even fiberglass work going on.
New steering wheel – removing the airbag
The thirdgen Firebird is an 80’s design icon. However, for the 1990 model year, Pontiac introduced the steering wheel airbag, which in my opinion never really suited the style of the interior. I’ve found a more period correct steering wheel. Not an original Firebird steering wheel from the previous years, but a new style from VSW. It’s 35 cm in diameter, compared to the 38 cm of the OEM steering wheel. Just slightly smaller, so you don’t really notice it when you see it, but definitely feels more like a Go Kart when you drive it.
Parts used:
Steering wheel: VSW S6 Leather Series – ST3060B-8B-21BLK
Adapter: 6061 Billet Aluminum
Compatible with 1969 – 1994 Pontiac Firebird or Chevrolet Camaro (and others)
Knight Rider dashboard build – Episode 1 – Unboxing the dash & electronics
It’s happening, I’ve finally changed my mind and bought the KITT dashboard (2nd season “ultimate edition”) from KRW and the latest version electronics from ideegeniali. Time to unbox the package. Subscribe and stay tuned as I build this dashboard and install it in my KITT.

KITT Firebird Trans Am – Episode 29 – I’ve re-restored KITT
Join me as I somewhat re-restore my KITT. Over the winter of 2020 / 2021 I gathered a few parts I knew I’d have to replace at some point in the future. When I recently discovered a few oil and coolant leaks, I thought I might as well do everyhting in one go. I was shocked at how many original parts I still hadn’t changed on this car: springs, transmission mount, power steering mount, steering rack, water pump, power steering pump, the spark control module as well as a number of other parts I changed off camera (see below for parts list).
KITT Firebird Trans Am – Episode 28 – Wiring up the dashboard electronics
In this video I’m going through each step of wiring up the ideegeniali KITT dashboard electronics.
KITT Firebird Trans Am – Episode 27 – unboxing the dashboard electronics
Here’s a quick unboxing video of the ideegeniali 1st / 2nd season KITT dashboard electronics I will be putting together for a friend of mine’s KITT dashboard. That’s right, this one is not for my KITT, but I shall still document the process. Stay tuned for the next steps!
KITT Firebird Trans Am project – short introduction
This is a very short introduction of my KITT project, which original intention was to be included in the Planet KITT replica project. Check out the series of videos I’ve made on my KITT Firebird Trans Am in my video library.
Replacing the turn signal return springs
In this video I’m showing how to install new turn signal return springs on my 1990 Pontiac Firebird. This applies to many GM cars from the 70’s to early 90’s. Earlier models obviously won’t have airbags, therefore will needs less work to swap out.
